DeSoto County was again represented well at this year’s Special Olympics Mississippi Summer Games held at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi. Dwayne Wims, DeSoto Region Area 16 Director for Special Olympics, said the group this year earned 55 gold medals, 32 silver medals, 17 bronze and 10 fourth-place ribbons during the event. The 62 athletes were a record number for the Summer Games delegation from DeSoto County, Wims said, and the team’s success put them in the fop five among teams that competed in the Games.
