The Mississippi RiverKings used two power goals to recover from a two-goal deficit and defeat the Peoria Rivermen 3-2 Saturday night at the Landers Center in Southaven.

Mississippi split the weekend series with their SPHL rivals, after Peoria defeated the RiverKings 5-2 Friday night.

Connor Gorman staked Peoria to a 2-0 lead in the initial period with two tallies in the first 10:04 of the game.

But, Sam Higgins answered on the power play for Mississippi just 2:13 after Gorman's second goal to cut the margin to 2-1 Peoria at the first intermission.

At that point, Mississippi goalie Brad Barone put the clamps on any further Peoria offense, while Ryan Marcuz tied the game with his 11th goal of the year at 7:33 of the middle frame.

Dillan Fox provided the game-winning goal on the power play early in the third period at 1:07, assisted by Corey Tyrell.

Fox and Tyrell finished the night leading the Mississippi offense, each with two points; Fox with a goal and an assist and Tyrell providing a pair of helpers in the win.

Barone stopped 29 shots in posting his eighth win of the season (8-5-2). Storm Phaneuf (0-2-1) took the loss for Peoria with a 24-save performance.

Mississippi was 2-for-4 on the power play, while Peoria failed to score on eight extra-man chances. Peoria outshot Mississippi 31-27.

The next time Mississippi takes the ice will be Thursday at Roanoke, Va. in the start of a three-game weekend. The RiverKings will also play at Roanoke Friday and in Huntsville Saturday and in Evansville on Friday, Jan. 20 before being back on home ice Saturday, Jan. 21 against Evansville.
