The Mississippi RiverKings’ season rests now on getting two wins this weekend in Huntsville, Ala.
The Havoc opened the first-round, best-of-three playoffs with a 4-2 victory against the RiverKings at the Landers Center Wednesday night. Game two of the series will be on Huntsville’s home ice Friday night with a possible game three, if needed, returning to Huntsville on Saturday.
In Wednesday’s game, the Havoc struck first with Scott Fellnermayr’s goal at 1:52 of the second period.
Robert Lindores answered for Mississippi at 6:09 with assists to Tyler Barr and Cody Castro, but Huntsville took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission with Jordan Wood’s first goal of the playoffs at 14:12.
The Havoc made it a two-goal game in the third frame on Justin Tateson’s tally just 30 seconds into the period.
Mississippi got within one when Dillan Fox scored on the power play at 16:49, on assists from Ryan Marcuz and Mike Moran, but Huntsville’s Sy Nutkevitch’s empty-net goal finished the second with just four seconds left in the game.
The RiverKings outshot the Havoc 45-30 for the contest, with winning goaltender Tyler Steel making 43 saves. Brad Barone took the loss for the RiverKings with a 26-save performance.
