The Mississippi RiverKings entered Wednesday night’s first game of the Southern Professional Hockey League playoffs against the Huntsville Havoc knowing they had two of the better players the past month or so on their side.

The SPHL Wednesday named Mississippi forwards Devin Mantha and Mike Moran as Co-Players of the Month for the months of March and April together.

Mississippi started the postseason with game one of a best-of-three series against the Havoc at the Landers Center Wednesday night.

Game two is set for Huntsville, Ala. on Friday with a possible game three on Saturday, also in Huntsville.

Mantha scored 10 goals and 23 points in 13 games during the March-April period, and ended the regular season with 18 goals and 39 points, playing in just 32 contests.

On March 11 against Roanoke, Mantha became the fifth player in SPHL history to record five goals in a single game and the second to record seven points in a game.

Meanwhile, Moran also scored 10 goals and 23 points in 13 appearances. This season, Moran led the RiverKings in goals (29), assists (24), points (53) and game-winning goals (eight) while playing just 42 games.

Later Wednesday, Moran was announced as being named to the SPHL All-Rookie Team for the just-completed regular season.
