University of North Florida shooting guard Lauren Gross was selected as the Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Week after a strong performance in two games last week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The Southaven native and standout player at Northpoint Christian School helped the Ospreys to a 1-1 mark last week while averaging 12.5 points and two rebounds per game.
"She has been working very hard and that work is starting to show and pay off," said head coach Darrick Gibbs. "I'm really happy for Lauren, and her continued development as a player and a leader will be huge for us as the season goes forward."
Gross finished second on the team with a season-high 17 points in an 82-76 overtime win over Charleston Southern. She shot 62.5 percent from the floor, including 50 percent from beyond the arc and 100 percent at the free throw line.
The 5-9 guard connected on two treys while tallying eight points and a rebound in yesterday's 61-59 loss at Colorado State.
