The Memphis Hustle NBA G League team wrapped up another West Coast visit Sunday with a 137-132 loss to the South Bay Lakers in El Segundo, Calif. and Wednesday will conclude its current road trip with another meeting with the Iowa Wolves (Timberwolves), this time in Des Moines, Iowa.
Memphis split the road trip with Sunday’s loss, following a 123-115 victory Friday at Santa Cruz (Warriors).
Sunday’s high-scoring, closely-played contest saw 14 ties and 10 lead changes. It also saw each team lead by double digits during the matchup.
Hot shooting by the opposition again became a problem the Hustle have to remedy, as the LA Lakers affiliate shot better than 50 percent (52.6 percent) from the floor for the game.
The Lakers also had a 25-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
Memphis was able to find the range as well on Sunday, as four players scored 20-or-more points and all five starters hit 17 or more for the contest.
They were led by Omari Johnson’s 26 points and Marquis Teague with 25 for the Hustle. Ivan Rabb (23 points, 16 rebounds) and Durand Scott (22 points) also produced offensively for Memphis.
Wednesday night’s game in Des Moines will pit two teams that have each won games in the season series thus far.
Memphis claimed an 88-80 victory at the Landers Center on Friday, Nov. 17, but Iowa answered with a 117-98 win, also at the Landers Center, on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
Memphis is 7-10 overall and in third place in the league’s Midwest Division. Iowa is just below the Hustle in fourth place with a 6-9 record.
The squad will return to the Landers Center on Friday, December 22 for a matchup with the Austin Spurs at 7 p.m.
