Eagles retire Reed baseball jersey
HORN LAKE - Former Horn Lake baseball star Cody Reed had his jersey number 24 retired by the school at halftime of the girls' basketball game between Horn Lake and Blytheville, Ark. Thursday night.
Reed, a 2011 graduate of Horn Lake, went on to become a junior college All-American at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia.
Cody was an all-conference pitcher in high school and led his team to the district championship his senior year. "When they talk about that district championship, it was the first time in about 13 or 14 years and we won it my senior year, so that means a lot to me."
At Northwest, Reed was an all-state and all-region selection both years with the Rangers and was picked to the NJCAA All-American squad his sophomore year.
Cody has several school records with the Rangers, including career and season strikeouts, wins, innings pitched, and shutouts.
Earlier this year, Reed was selected in baseball's entry draft as the 46th overall draft selection of the Kansas City Royals. Cody was drafted higher than any other DeSoto County high school graduate and is the highest selection for a Northwest Community College grad.
Reed spent the 2013 season in Class A Idaho Falls and helped the Chukars to their first-ever Pioneer League Championship as an affiliate of the Royals.
