DeSoto Central wins River City Classic

DeSoto Central's volleyball team continued its successful run through the fall season with an unbeaten record and the title of the River City Classic at Arlington, Tenn. this weekend. The 19-1 Lady Jags defeated Bartlett, Tenn. 2-0 in the finals with set scores of 25-19 and 25-20. Center Hill and Lake Cormorant also took part with Lake Cormorant winning the Silver Division bracket. Center Hill finished 2-3 in the tournament.

DeSoto Central has been a dominating volleyball team in DeSoto County this fall and that continued over the weekend at Arlington, Tenn. The Lady Jags improved to 19-1 for the year in sweeping through and winning the River City Classic tournament. 

In winning the title, DeSoto Central did not lose a set the entire tournament, with victories over Tennessee competition from St. Mary’s Episcopal, Munford, and Evangelical Christian.

In the quarterfinals, the Lady Jags defeated Center Hill, topped Tipton-Rosemark in the semifinals and claimed the tournament championship with a 25-19, 25-20 victory over Bartlett, Tenn., a team DeSoto Central will meet again at Bartlett Wednesday after a Tuesday home match against Tupelo.

For the weekend, Zoe Storck served 18 aces and made 53 assists, Kendall Thomas served 13 aces and make 24 kills, Riley Storck added 20 kills, Kennedy Schritenthal 25 kills and 31 assists, Mattie Meine made 52 digs and Ellie Meine added 40 digs.

Center Hill finished the tournament 2-3 and Lake Cormorant won the silver bracket of the same event.
