Hiaburnia Gaines Wilroy, 89, of Hernando, passed away Aug. 12, 2018. She was born April 22, 1929 in Lewisburg, and lived most of her life in Hernando. To have lived so long, she had two close calls in her life. Around the age of three, her dress caught fire and she suffered burns to her back and spent three months in the hospital. Around the age of 23, she was in an auto accident and suffered major head injuries. She loved to travel, play bridge and read and was a big believer in education. After her two sons graduated from college she went back to night school and attained her college degree. She is predeceased by her father Hubert Gaines, mother Mattie Mae Troy and her stepfather Haywood Troy. She is survived by her sons, Lee Crawford and Rick Crawford and his wife Georgia; grandson Richard Crawford and his wife Niki; her beloved sister Eudita Baird; her niece Troy Baird; her nephew Dean Baird and her cousins Santa Spears and Austa Weaver. Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 16 at Hernando United Methodist Church, with visitation at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Baker’s Chapel. In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to Hernando United Methodist Church.
