A Hernando woman has turned herself into the city’s police department, telling officers she wanted to surrender to them for murdering her husband.
A news release from the Hernando Police Department Thursday morning indicated that Jamie Lynn Johnson, age 34, of Hernando entered police headquarters about 9 p.m. Wednesday night with her church pastor and mother and wanted to turn herself in for the death of husband Gregory Lee Johnson.
Jamie Lynn Johnson’s action in her surrender apparently came after she sought guidance and counsel from her pastor.
Officers went to the Johnson’s home in the Country Haven Trailer Park along Highway 51, where they found Gregory Johnson shot and deceased. Jamie was then taken into custody and a search warrant was granted as investigators entered the home.
Gregory Johnson was the victim of a single gunshot wound, according to police. County Coroner Josh Pounders has stated the time of death to be about 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Jamie Lynn Johnson has been taken to the DeSoto County Adult Detention Center and has been charged with murder in the case.
The police release stated the case investigation is ongoing.
Jail information has bond for Jamie Johnson set at $250,000 with a Circuit Court appearance date of July 10 in the case.
