Woman strikes MDOT tractor, flips car

Mississippi Department of Transportation officials discuss the collision between a vehicle and an MDOT bush hog tractor Thursday on U.S. 51. A woman was injured in the collision.

A woman flipped her vehicle along U.S. Hwy. 51 around 10:30 a.m. Thursday after striking a Mississippi Department of Transportation bush hog tractor.

DeSoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco said the woman did suffer injuries but they did not appear to be life-threatening.

"She had some cuts and bruises," Rasco said. "She was taken to the hospital."

The woman was conscious and talked with authorities. The accident scene was being worked by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

"The way she explained it to me the sun was in her eyes as she topped the hill," Rasco said. "The tractor was in the shade when she struck it."

The woman's car flipped over on the roadway and had to be towed from the scene.

U.S. Hwy. 51, south of Hernando, remains partially closed to through-traffic due to the construction of the new U.S. Hwy. 51 Coldwater River Bridge.

There should have been a flag man standing at the top of that hill. I passed it both ways & that little sign was not enough!!
