Burglaries are on the rise in DeSoto County, with a spate of burglaries and smash-and-grabs occurring over the weekend, according to DeSoto County Sheriff's Department officials.

''There were multiple targets hit over the weekend, said Chief Inspector Roger Hutchins with the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department. ''We don't know if they are connected yet.''

One of the most recent burglaries occurred at Pop's Express, located at Church Road and Pleasant Hill Road, at approximately 4 a.m. Sunday.

''This burglary involved two subjects in a vehicle,'' Hutchins said. "Store products were taken.''

Authorities said the two suspects wanted in connection with the burglary were driving a gray Infiniti sedan with no license plate.

''We were kept busy over the weekend, said DeSoto County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Macon Moore. ''It's that time of year.''
