A Southaven alderman was taken into custody early Wednesday and was being processed at the DeSoto County Jail on a charge of procuring prostitution.
Ronald Wayne Hale, who represents Ward 2 in Southaven, Mississippi's third-largest city, was arrested by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department and booked into the DeSoto County Adult Detention Center with a $1,000 bond.
Hale, 57, was elected to the Southaven Board of Alderman in 2016 as a representative in Ward 2.
"We made the arrest," said DeSoto County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Macon Moore on Wednesday. "It's an ongoing investigation."
Moore added that authorities are not disclosing where the arrest occurred.
Moore did say that Hale was the only person arrested in the case.
Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite issued a statement Wednesday afternoon concerning Hale's arrest.
"While this is obviously very concerning to me, it is a personal legal matter for Alderman Hale with an ongoing investigation by the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department," Musselwhite stated. "It is not appropriate for me to make any further comment until the investigation and judicial process has been completed."
