The DeSoto County Schools Board of Education will hold its first meeting in April on Monday, April 8, It begins at 3 p.m. in the boardroom at the Central Services office, 5 E. South Street in Hernando.
A number of items are on the agenda for Monday’s meeting. Board members will be asked to advertise for bids to construct a ninth grade building at DeSoto Central High School, a concept similar to what was earlier done at Southaven High School. Bids are also expected to be advertised for a flooring program at Horn Lake Intermediate School.
A presentation on the Third Grade Reading Camp will be made and proposals on the elementary, and middle and high school summer school offerings will be heard.
Several revised board policies will be considered. They address textbook selection and adoption, district assurance for children with disabilities, school libraries, grading system, class ranking, promotion and retention, graduation assessment options, special education graduation/occupational diplomas, testing program and school admissions.
A number of contractual agreements are on the consent agenda, as well as other items.
The superintendent’s report will also spotlight a school and recent achievements.
