Nov. 6 is shaping up to be a busy election day in America and the Mid-South, especially in the Magnolia State in which two U.S. Senate seats are on the ballot, including a nonpartisan race involving candidates to fill the open seat of retired U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran.

Incumbent U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker is up for re-election and will face Democrat David Baria, Libertarian Danny Bedwell and Reform Party candidate Shawn O'Hara.

In the special election, U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, appointed earlier this year to fill Cochran's seat by Republican Gov. Phil Bryant, will face Tobey Bartee, Mike Espy and Chris McDaniel in the nonpartisan race.

In the First Congressional District, incumbent U.S. Rep. Trent Kelly, a Republican, will face Democrat Randy Mack Watkins and Reform Party candidate Tracella Lou O'Hara Hill.

In the nonpartisan judicial election, Donna Barnes is unopposed on the District 1, Position 2 seat on the Court of Appeals.

For Chancery Court, District 3-1, Place 1, Percy L. Lynchard, the incumbent, is unopposed.

For Circuit Court District 17, Place 4, Gerald W. Chatham, Sr., the incumbent, is unopposed.

For Circuit Court District 17-1, Place 3, incumbent Celeste Embrey Wilson will face longtime attorney Stan Little.

For Judicial District 1, County Court Judge, Place 1, Allen B. Couch is unopposed.

For Judicial District 1, County Court Judge, Place 2, Craig Treadway is unopposed.

In the special election for DeSoto County Coroner, William Joshua Pounders is unopposed.

Two DeSoto County School Board seats are on the ballot, including District 4, which include Elsie Geanes Miller, Jeny Black Price and Sheila Riley, the incumbent.

In District 3, Barcadi M. Harris will square off against Ann O. Jolley, the incumbent.
