The former police chief of Walls pled guilty to charges of embezzlement on Friday. Herb Brewer, who served as police chief from December 2014 to February 2019, was indicted by a grand jury last February.

According to State Auditor Shad White, Brewer sold two city-owned vehicles to members of his family and kept the proceeds. The two vehicles were a 2007 Ford Mustang and a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, totaling $1,850 in profit.

Brewer also undercharged the buyers $2,730 for the vehicles. White issued a letter to Brewer demanding a total payment of $6,940, which includes interest and investigation charges. This letter was issued in February at the time of indictment.

Brewer was sentenced to time already served in prison in addition to two years of probation, as well as a fine of $500.

Brewer’s guilty verdict prevents him from working in a government office in Mississippi again, according to White’s office.
