DeSoto will join in the interlocal compact with Calhoun, Hinds, Grenada, Lafayette, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc, Rankin and Tunica counties.
"This is our opportunity to capture the growth of the county," Winkler said.

"There are 35,000 school age children in DeSoto County," Caldwell said. "We should be bursting at the seams.I trust that we can do a better job. It's not growing as we had anticipated."
