A DeSoto County teacher is in trouble with the law after her arrest last week in a traffic stop.
DeSoto Central Middle School sixth-grade history and science instructor Ashley George of Olive Branch was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence and careless driving after her arrest at about 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 by the Southaven Police Department.
The 28-year-old George was given a $10,000 bond in the case.
Her webpage on the DeSoto Central Middle School web site lists George as a 2007 graduate of Olive Branch High School who received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Mississippi in 2011 with minors in history and English.
George has also been involved in the DeSoto Central Middle School girls’ soccer team as a coach, it read.
However, DeSoto County Schools officials Wednesday issued the following statement about George’s employment status as a result of the arrest.
“The employee is on administrative leave while the matter is being investigated by the school district,” the statement read.
