An intruder into a DeSoto County home was shot by the homeowner and is being treated at a Memphis hospital.
The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department stated the incident took place early Thursday morning at a residence on Center Hill Road.
Deputies went to the home when the homeowner called to say he had shot a man the homeowner said was an intruder.
On response to the home, deputies and emergency personnel found Richard Ray Bias, age 32, with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and leg.
Bias was taken to Regional One Health in Memphis, where he is being treated in critical condition, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Bias is currently on parole supervision through the Mississippi Department of Corrections following his release in Texas for a burglary conviction. He was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the incident.
Deputies continue to investigate the Thursday morning incident.
