Death investigation

DeSoto County authorities discovered the body of a man in a rural pond in the Walls area on Tuesday. The body has not yet been identified.

DeSoto County Coroner Jeff Pounders said Wednesday that the body was discovered about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday by individuals who were at a home for sale in the area.

The home was located in the 1700 block of Goodman Road West, just off the bluff near U.S. Hwy. 61, according to Pounders.

According to Pounders, the body is that of a black male, estimated to be in his 30s or 40s.

"There was a house on a hill by a pond that was for sale and some people who were driving up the driveway saw his body floating on the surface of the pond," Pounders said.

Pounders said the man's body was an "an early state of decomposition."

"We couldn't find any injuries to the body but hopefully the autopsy will tell us more as to the cause of death."

The body has been sent to the Mississippi State Crime Laboratory in Jackson for an autopsy.

Autopsy results will take a few days to complete, according to Pounders.
