A Southaven man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that took place in the city Wednesday night.
Late Thursday, Southaven Police reported the arrest of Toney Renel Hughes Jr., age 18 of Southaven. Hughes was taken to the DeSoto County Adult Detention Center in Hernando without bond. Jail information indicates Hughes has been charged with felony attempt to commit an offense. A May 1 court date has been scheduled for Hughes.
Officers were called to the Emergency Room at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto Wednesday when they were told a shooting victim had been brought there by a private vehicle.
Officers learned the shooting had taken place in the 8000 block of Elmbrook Drive in the Brook Hollow area off Rasco Road.
What police termed as a “crime scene” was found in the front yard and in the street in front of the residence.
The victim, identified as a black male, but who has not been identified, has been transferred to Regional One Health in Memphis, where he was listed in critical condition.
In a statement issued by Southaven Police Capt. Mark Little, “We are still working many leads and interviewing potential witnesses to better learn exactly what took place and who was involved.”
