A total of 18 students from DeSoto County Schools have been named National Merit Finalists, an elite group of the nation's top students now competing for National Merit scholarships. The group has been recognized for their accomplishment by the DeSoto County Schools Board of Education. National Merit Finalists represent less than one percent of American high school seniors. Winners are judged by factors that include academic records, recommendation letters, student essays, performance on college entrance exams, and extracurricular activities and leadership.
