Elementary students tour Wesson House

Robert Long, Curator of the Historic DeSoto Museum gives Olive Branch Elementary students a tour of the Wesson House, home of Olive Branch’s first mayor Benjamin Franklin Wesson, portrayed by Long. The house is located on land purchased from Chickasaw Indian Chief Lush-Pun Tubby. Wesson built a mercantile store on the property and built the home around 1875. He served one term as mayor until 1877 and later served as the city’s Postmaster from 1880 until 1881. Alderman Pat Hamilton helped to organize the event.
