Sometimes a tragedy can spawn an inspiration.
In the case of Kendra and Artis Taylor, the tragedy was the unfortunate death of their premature daughter Hannah.
The inspiration is the start of Hannah’s Dreams, a children’s and women’s clothing boutique in the Tanger Outlets Southaven, at 5205 Airways Blvd. in Southaven. The store has been in operation since October 2016, when it opened two days after what would have been Hannah’s 14th birthday. The store has been in its current location since July of last year.
Hannah was born 19 weeks into pregnancy and passed away shortly after her birthday, Kendra Taylor said.
“Shortly after losing Hannah, my husband and I prayed for a venue that would allow us to remember Hannah in a joyous way,” said Kendra. “This vision of a children’s boutique in her honor was birthed. It was all in God’s timing.”
Since the store opened two-and-a-half years ago, Hannah’s Dreams offers unique, stylish and affordable clothing for women and children.
The store specializes in girls’ clothing up to size 14, boys’ apparel up to size 5, and women’s fashions from small to 3X.
Hannah’s Dreams also offers accessories, including shoes, purses, headbands, jewelry, bow ties and head bands, Taylor said, adding, “Hannah’s Dreams is where we’re turning fashion dreams into reality.”
Taylor pointed out that, while clothing and accessory sales is what the store is all about, the ability to honor their daughter in other ways allows them to give back.
“There is an outreach associated with it,” said Taylor. “Through our foundation, Empowered Foundation, Inc., we buy preemie and newborn clothing for families who lose babies like we did and provide it to them free of charge. We have partnered with Memphis Union Mission to feed the homeless.”
Taylor added the foundation has also partnered with Missionaries of Charity to provide coats for homeless children.
Being in the Tanger Outlets Southaven outlet mall provides her store with maximum visibility.
“It (Tanger Outlets) is a tourist destination,” explained Taylor. “I have an opportunity to meet people from all over the city, region and world. There are several times people visit from other countries, such as Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa.”
Shoppers will find traditional items as well as trendy, casual and dressy items for children, along with the selection of women’s clothing.
However, Hannah’s Dreams is also available to be shopped online through the store website, www.hannahdreams.com.
Taylor encourages customers to come in, browse and buy, but also encourages them to ask her about Hannah and her story.
“My inspiration comes from the opportunity of sharing my testimony about my daughter with my customers,” Taylor said. “There are not many days that go by where there is not a customer that has suffered the loss of a child or is close to someone who has.”
