Sweetpea’s Table restaurant in Olive Branch has re-opened at its new location south of the Highway 305/Church Road intersection. It remains a staple with its well-known down-home food menu, but now has added a new events center. DeSoto County’s collective hunger for the great food that Sweetpea’s Table restaurant in Olive Branch has been known for has been filled with the opening of its new restaurant at 4646 Highway 305 North, just south of the 305/Church Road intersection.

Sweetpea’s Table, known for its down-home great food and live weekend music at its former Midsouth Drive location, recently opened on a Friday afternoon for the first time in its sparkling new 5,500 square foot building that features a dining room and an events center.

Word of the restaurant being back in business quickly spread and co-owner Amy Hughes said the following night on Saturday was overwhelming.

“We didn’t get the word out until Friday afternoon, so even though we had a full house, it still was not madness,” Hughes said. “By Saturday, the word was out and everybody came flooding through the doors come 5 p.m. I was overwhelmed and speechless in a lot of ways, because people have been so wonderful in hanging in there with us.”

Hughes owns the restaurant along with her parents Jim and Gail Minga. They own this location and had leased the old restaurant. Hughes said the family have been grateful for the response from their loyal customers, but especially grateful to those who work for them.

“Seeing all the employees who stuck in there with me through two months of being closed and not getting paychecks is special to me,” Hughes said. “I have over 30 employees here and well over half of them came from my old location. I would say even three-quarters of them followed me from the old location.”

The restaurant side consists of 2,000 square feet of space that will add only 50 more seats in the dining area, but provide for more space for customers to eat.

The other side will be an events center that will include a portable stage, sound equipment and will be a room that can host dances, banquets and weddings, even “small, intimate concerts,” Hughes said.

“It will seat roughly 450-500 people, depending on how you will seat it,” Hughes added. “If it is concert seating, you are looking at about 500 people. Banquet seating will be closer to 350 people capacity.”

That means Highway 305 will become busier, a concern nearby residents had in the zoning process with the city, but Hughes explains that the highway is already busy.

“With I-269 about to open up near Lewisburg and I-22 right here, there’s a lot of traffic going up and down the highway,” said Hughes. “This seems like a place we can grow and grow into.”

Sweetpea’s Table is open Tuesday-Thursday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday. The restaurant is closed on Monday.
