Keeping it a family-run business was what Tri-Lakes Pool and Spa, LLC owner Abe Roberts wanted to do when he took over the company earlier this year from his mentor, Ronnie Jackson, who ran the company from its original Senatobia location.

That determination, along with the desire that families with swimming pools as part of their residence enjoy their “aquatic paradise” brings the most satisfaction to Roberts, as he is involved in pool renovation and repair.

“It’s family-owned and he (Jackson) passed it down to me to keep it in the family,” Roberts said. “I’ve been doing this since I was 15-years old, on and off.”

Keeping the business a family-owned company was important to Roberts and Jackson when the business was passed on.

“Family is everything,” said Roberts, a truck driver when the pool season is done and winter comes. “My family understands that it takes my time to make somebody else’s family happy and we take that sacrifice, six months out of the year, anyway.”

Since April, Abe and his nephew Drake Roberts have been helping DeSoto County and Mid-South homeowners stay cool on hot summer days in a pool they can be proud of.

They can come in and do just about anything involving a swimming pool, Roberts said.

“We do custom-measured liners and safety covers and we’re a custom vinyl-liner specialist,” Roberts said. “Any pool that’s a vinyl-liner pool, we’ll go out, assess it and custom measure it, then we give the customer the opportunity to go out and pick a liner. We’ll do it in one day. They order it, it takes seven days to get the liner in once I pick it up from the distributor in Memphis, and it then takes me one day to put it in.”

Roberts added he won’t stop at just pools, however, as Tri-Lakes will also do add-ons, fountains, slides and diving boards.

“You name it, we can do it,” Roberts said.

Projects will typically involve removing the old water and then patching the floor, if needed. The new selected liner comes in and new water is added the same day.

“Pool work is fun, you’re outside all of the time,” said Roberts. “You make people happy. You knock on somebody’s door when they call you, they’re down in the dumps and then in less than a week, you can make them happy, just by letting them go swimming.”

Roberts added his work has been found all over the Mid-South, from DeSoto County and North Mississippi into Memphis and Shelby County, Tenn.
