There are likely as many restaurant choices in DeSoto County as there now are new employees serving hungry visitors at the county’s newest food option.
Horn Lake welcomed its new Golden Corral Buffet and Grill, located in the old Ryan’s Buffet building at 988 Goodman Road West Thursday morning with a Grand Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony.
City officials and business leaders from Horn Lake and other county communities were on hand to wish the new restaurant well, a restaurant that is touted as “The Best Buffet in the USA.”
Quintin Pridgen has arrived and taken residence in DeSoto County from his previous position with Golden Corral to become the new restaurant’s general manager. Pridgen said he is excited to have made the move.
“It feels like home,” Pridgen said. “I myself have been bouncing around my whole life and I haven’t had a home, but I feel like I’m home here.”
In fact, Pridgen said his Golden Corral experience includes positions at restaurants in Shreveport, La. and six years in Lawton, Okla., but the Army had him in more distant locales before that.
“I was in Germany for six years and Italy for three years, all involving food service,” Pridgen said.
The new general manager will be overseeing a staff of about 105 employees, who Pridgen said were getting the best training possible from what Golden Corral calls, “The A-Team.”
“The A-Team is here training our personnel that we have here,” Pridgen said. “They’re the best in their stores and that’s why they are here, so we can have the best.”
While offering many types of food fare, buffet-style restaurants in DeSoto County are few and far between, especially since the parent company for Ryan’s Buffet filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closed its Horn Lake location in March 2016.
Golden Corral purchased a select group of Ryan’s locations, including Horn Lake, and set about renovation and re-opening the restaurant on Dec. 29. Thursday marked its official grand opening.
“People love honest food and good food with home cooking,” Pridgen said. “That’s something that Golden Corral does. When the people here started tasting the food, the guest response I was getting here was just awesome.”
The new addition also is exciting for city leaders who believe additions like this help cement Horn Lake as a “city on the move,” said Mayor Allen Latimer.
“I’ve heard nothing but excellent remarks about this outstanding facility,” Latimer said. “We are so glad to have Golden Corral in Horn Lake complement the restaurants we already have. We want this to be the number one Golden Corral in the United States.”
