The main tenant for this building in the Olive Branch Crossing shopping development near Pleasant Hill and Goodman roads is expected to be announced shortly. Plans for a Fresh Market supermarket there have apparently fallen through with a new tenant announcement expected in the next several days, according to developers.

Just what the main tenant of the vacant building space in the Olive Branch Crossing center near Pleasant Hill and Goodman roads will hold may soon be announced, but the earlier expectations of it holding a Fresh Market food store will apparently not be happening.

The site on the south side of Goodman Road in the shopping area that also holds Hobby Lobby, Five Below and Academy Sports was originally planned to hold DeSoto County’s first Fresh Market store, a North Carolina-based national franchise of supermarkets known for its emphasis on fresh, organic and local products.

There are currently two Fresh Market locations in Memphis and another one in Germantown, Tenn. Plans were for the Olive Branch location to become just the second one in Mississippi, with Ridgeland being the other location.

Those plans were put into question last year when hedge fund Apollo Global Management, LLC agreed to buy Fresh Market for $1.4 billion.

It was initially thought with new ownership a rethinking of the store layout was behind a delay in the interior construction of what is at this time an open area inside the building.

But a recent email response to an inquiry sent to the Seitz Group, a Texas-based firm with control of the retail development of the building, indicates an announcement on a new tenant is soon to be forthcoming.

The response simply stated that a replacement tenant would be announced in approximately two weeks. The response was provided within the last week to the DeSoto Times-Tribune.

While it appears Fresh Market is not going to come to Olive Branch at this time, questions about what exactly will be going into the space will apparently be answered within the next several days.

I, for one, am praying for a SPROUTS!

Maybe through some divine intervention, we’ll kick up and it will be Whole Foods or a Trader Joe’s. Hope springs eternal!
