$30 million subdivision planned for Olive Branch

Olive Branch — Construction of a $30 million planned commercial subdivision that will cater to senior citizens is expected to begin in December.
Preliminary plans for the development, to go up at 5500 Goodman Road in Olive Branch, were approved by city planning commissioners on Tuesday.
Developer L.C. Vance with Omega Properties Inc. in Memphis said the subdivision will be a one- of-a-kind gated community designed to serve senior citizens with senior housing and medical complexes.
Other permitted uses for the development include establishments such as grocery stores, post offices, banks, repair and service shops, department stores, animal clinics, restaurants, day care centers, health clubs and spas, auto parts shops and many more.
The senior housing facility, Vance said, will offer separate living quarters, a dining room, kitchen, and networking and activity areas. The medical complex is planned to house offices for professionals such as doctors, dentists and lawyers.
The subdivision will also include businesses like beauty salons and drug stores. An alzheimer’s daycare facility is also planned for the development.
“This is going to be a community complex that will benefit seniors,” Vance said.
There, seniors won’t have to go far to get to a doctor or dentist office, and places like a sundry salon will also be nearby, Vance said.
“It will be a nice place,” he said.
The development will cover nearly 40 acres on the north side of Goodman Road and a half-mile east of Pleasant Hill Road. It will include 16 buildings that consist of a total of about 200,000 square feet.
The subdivision will be constructed in four phases, Vance said, with phase one starting in December along the Goodman Frontage Road and phase four starting in July 2010.

" O.B. can't manage what it has now. I thought the present economy might teach some lessons in planned development. Not in O.B. "

" "Construction ... is expected to begin in December."
Yeah right. I'll believe that when I see it. There's only a gazillion planned projects in Olive Branch, both residential and commercial, that don't get rolling for 5+ years, if at all. Remember the Malco Theater that was gonna be built behind the Intermediate School? Remember the developers who announced in 2005 that the acres of agriculture along Craft Road would be housing developments within the year?
btw ... Tony G's wrong, there's only one Taco Bell. And I'm even gladder than him that he moved away. :) "

" as I have said before...nothing should be built in O.B. until a stoplight is installed at Stateline and Hacks Cross. Let's think about protecting our citizens from that intersection before any other construction is approved. Putting that fake right hand turn lane onto Stateline going
northbound at Hacks Cross is a joke. Nobody adheres to it. SOS "

Not counting Mineral Wells Motel and their ilk ...
Hampton Inn (302 @ 78)
Comfort Inn (302 @ 78)
Candlewood Suites (by Home Depot)
Holiday Inn Express (305 @ 78)
Best Western (Hacks @ 78)
Super 8 (Hacks & 78)
Fairfield Inn (Hacks @ 302)
I won't even count Whispering Woods
Byhalia's even got something new along Highway 78. "

Although I suspect TonyG lives out west, I won't bother explaining Olive Branch / Southaven boundaries.
I agree that OB needs a second Taco Bell ... over by the KFC and Danvers on Hacks Cross. "

" I believe "Taco Bell" is a metaphor for the unbridled commercial fiasco known as Olive Branch. I could be wrong. All these Taco lovers might explain why I can't get down the aisle at Wal-Mart or Kroger. "
