HORN LAKE - A Horn Lake man has been charged with murder after shooting his wife to death at their home Wednesday night.
William Joseph Hogan, 27, was arrested following the shooting at 2725 Camelot Cove and booked into DeSoto County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Hogan called 911 around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, telling a dispatcher that he had shot his 32-year-old wife and she was no longer breathing. He then allegedly laid down his unloaded .40-caliber weapon on a nightstand and waited for police to come.
Police detained Hogan without incident before entering the home to find three children ages five to 12 and their mother Wendy Thweatt Hogan inside. She had massive head trauma and was pronounced dead on the scene. The children, a boy and two girls with a father other than William Hogan, were released unharmed to family members.
Hogan reportedly was found in her bedroom.
Horn Lake Police Chief Darryl Whaley said detectives are still looking into the shooting – which is being investigated as a homicide – but that the couple married about one year had "some type of argument or disagreement" earlier in the day.
"Apparently, there had been some problems over the past few days," he said.
Wendy Hogan's death is the second resulting from murder in Horn Lake in three days.
On Monday, 16 year-old James W. Hill was shot and killed outside his Horn Lake home after an argument with three other people, all who have been charged with murder.
With the exception of Monday's and Wednesday's slayings, Horn Lake's most recent homicide investigation was launched in 2005 following a murder-suicide.

" I think that the Horn lake police needs to stay on the streets not at coffee shops and setting at friends house talking about the races and keep our city not safe to live in. I know I live in churchwood and we have 3 cops that live in or visit so very often and not keeping us safe. So what is wrong with this picture. I love Desoto and we have a outstanding mayor and good policemen in the city so lets get it together guys. "

" First... I would liek to say that as long as I lived in Horn Lake the police have done their job! I praise them for doing so!!!
Second... I dont' understand why someone would trash the cops over something like this!!?!!?? What are they suppose to do assign 1 officer to every home? It wouldn't matter if a cop was sitting right outside this man's home it happened in a private house behind closed doors not in public.....right?!! Give me a break! Stop blaming the police for everything and start blaming some parents for not teaching their children better!
Thsi will be a long road these poor children are gettign ready to go down. Please remember them and pray they have some other family support to be there with them. "

" Please pray for these children. They lost their father in an auto accident 4 years ago and now their mother. They are having to face so much to be so young. When you pray for these children also thank God for protecting them from harm during the death of their mother. "

" Horn Lake and the surrounding areas has become infested with crime in the past three years and I fear for my children's safety both in HLE and HLIS. We need much more security than is presently there. "

" I am Renee's grandmother and words cannot express the deep, deep pain of lossing Renee. The children are with their mother's sister and will receive counceling free from their dead dad's va benfits. I pray everyday that that they grow up mentally healthy. Joe had to be a sociopath, without conscience, guilt, or remorse. He had not worked for 3mos and spent his time playing Warcraft on the computer. Had not gone in his truck to get the remaining stuff from their home in Cordova, Tn. after moving to Horn Lake. Oh yes, he had been given a second chance in life 3 or 4 years ago with a liver transplant. Only a drug addict or sociopath could have done a thing like that with the children in the house. He waited til Renee was asleep and shoot her 4 times in the head. She was sick and had laid down. They had text message til 3:30 and it was still on her phone and no argument there. He shoot her at 7:30. Told police he was in a rage about somthing that happened sat....4 days latter He kills her. I say to plan the murder. It was not a heat of passion murder. I'm sure the police and prison will take good care of him and provide him with his transplant medicine at taxpayer expence. Who knows he may spent the next 20 years on dealth row while the victim is forgotten and who knows how this will affect the children. I say evil has not won and Renee is surrouned by Gods pure love. Would't be nice if Joe had to spend eterity with people like himself. It is so sad he did not even know love when he met it from Renee and her family and his. So sad. "

" All of the children and Renee's family are in our prayers. We lived down the street from them in Cordova and our daughter was friends with and went to school with the children and it is a terrible loss for all of them. Our hearts and prayers are with you. Please let T know that KM would love to talk with her if she needs a friend. The email is attached. "

" i knew Joe for a long time and was by his side through his liver transplant. we were very close. i met renee once or twice and she seemed very nice, liked she loved him very much.i don't really know what to say except its hard when on one your friends does such a thing. i am not going to wonder why it happened, but i do know that joe has had a rough life, especially the last few years and i guess he just lost it. my prayers go out to the children and renee's family. joe deserves the maximum punishment of the law and i am sure he agrees and will plead guilty.
